Located in the central Wheatbelt town of Merredin WA, the client owns and operates an efficient logistics company transporting grain, fertiliser, stock and general freight. A large multi-purpose shed was required for the ongoing service maintenance, cleaning and storage of the modern fleet of prime mover and semi trailer configurations. The design needed to allow easy access for trucks and the service area needed to be fully enclosed for protection and security.
WHEATBELT STEEL’S ANSWER
The shed design was (100m x 30m) open on each side to allow the company’s truck setups to ‘drive through park’ in the building and has capacity for up to 14 long vehicle outfits. Construction was parallel chord trusses and RSJ column members. Steelwork treatment was high grade industrial enamel paint. Also included in the design was an enclosed service workshop area, a service pit in the floor to facilitate oil changes etc. and a wash down bay for the cleaning of the fleet’s assets. The client added on an office and amenities to the front of the building after the main shed was built.
