Albany Western Australia

Albany is the southernmost city in Western Australia, located just over 400km from the state capital, Perth.

The area around Albany was traditionally inhabited by the Mineng Noongar people, who lived in the area from Albany to the Porongurup Range.

It is a port city, and was founded in 1826 as a military outpost with the purpose of preventing the French from gaining a foothold in the region.

While the opening of Fremantle port decreased the economic importance of Albany, it still functions as a tourism and farming centre for the great south.

Albany is home to a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, with dry warm summers, cool wet winters, and pleasant, mild springs and autumns. While the summers are known to get quite warm, the southern breeze keeps it cooler than much of Western Australia. Albany has an annual average rainfall of 800mm, experiencing approximately 85 rainy days a year.

Albany serves as a major centre for much of the agriculture of the Great Southern region, with access to a sea port and airport, while the Albany Progress railway station closed in 1978. With such rich soil and reliable rainfall there are many industries that thrive in the Great Southern region, and the major industries include livestock (cattle and sheep), cereals and other broadacre, wool, milk and hay.

Farm sheds serve a variety of purposes in Western Australia, with such a diverse and strong agricultural industry, and this means a wide range of available farm sheds need to be available for the state’s farmers to choose from and customise.

Wheatbelt Steel offer a range of farm sheds for all industries, including Workshops, Machinery Sheds, Hay Sheds, Fertiliser Sheds, Grain Sheds, Aircraft Hangars, Shearing Sheds Equestrian Sheds and more, to ensure that your needs are not just met, but exceeded.

These sheds can be customised with roller doors or sliding doors, windows, skylights or ventilation, insulation or open bays, mezzanine floors, offices and more.

Buying a shed can be a confusing time, as there is a lot of information to process – particularly if it is your first shed, or your first time purchasing a shed. The experts at Wheatbelt Steel have been providing quality farm sheds to Western Australians for more than 40 years, and are available to help answer any questions and guide you to the best decision for you and your farm when it comes to your new shed.
