Balingup Western Australia
Balingup is a town and rural farming community in Western Australia’s South West region, a little over 50 kilometers south east of Bunbury.
The town takes its name from Balingup Pool, which was said to be derived from the name of Noongar warrior, Balingan.
The town was formally established just prior to federation in 1898, and has maintained a small community population ever since.
Today the town is most well known for its rural events and festivals, such as the Balingup Small Farm Field Day and the Medieval Carnivale.
The Balingup area is home to a Mediterranean climate, with cool wet winters and warm dry summers, with summer temperatures averaging in the high 20s to low 30s, and winters bringing steady rainfall, with average precipitation a little over 700mm a year.
Balingup has long been known for its fruit and vegetable growing – including quality citrus and apples – and has become a popular place for organic produce, as well as quality grass-fed beef cattle.
