Bridgetown Western Australia

Bridgetown is a town and shire in the South West region of Western Australia, just over 270 kilometers south of Perth on the Blackwood River.

The area was originally known by the traditional owners of the land as Geegelup, which the Noongar term meaning place of gilgies.

The townsite was established in 1868 as a place to run livestock, particularly wool sheep and dairy cattle, and was named for the first ship to dock in Bunbury to carry wool from the region.

Today Bridgetown is the centre of a productive agricultural district and is also a popular tourist spot, as many buildings in the town centre are over a century old.

Bridgetown has a mild Mediterranean climate, with cool wet winters and warm dry summers, with summer temperatures averaging in the high 20s to low 30s, and winters bringing steady rainfall, with average precipitation a little over 700mm a year.

Until the 1980s, the land surrounding Bridgetown was almost exclusively used for broadacre farming, however, the area became increasingly attractive to tourists as a tranquil and picturesque country town which resulted in a strong demand for residential and hobby farm allotments. The town produces strong numbers of timber, fruit and nuts, as well as dairy, wool, beef and lamb.

Farm sheds serve a variety of purposes in Western Australia, with such a diverse and strong agricultural industry, and this means a wide range of available farm sheds need to be available for the state’s farmers to choose from and customise.
