Goldfields-Esperance Region Western Australia

The Goldfields-Esperance Region is the largest of the nine agricultural regions in Western Australia, spanning almost a million square kilometres of mining and agricultural land in the eastern half of the state.

With a range of applications, from the gold and nickel mines of Kalgoorlie and Menzies, to the farmland of sheep and livestock to the south.

Nearly 10% of the region’s population are of Aboriginal descent, a significantly higher number than that of the state overall.

Most of the Goldfields-Esperance region is semi-arid, with subtropical climates closer to the coast, with little rainfall experienced in much of the region making some farming difficult to impossible.

Despite that, broadacre farming and mining have flourished in the region, making it a strong economic hub that is vital to the state’s operations and industry, with sheep, cattle, wheat, canola and other farming dominating much of the southern half of the region.
