Harvey Western Australia
Harvey is a town located in the South West region of Western Australia, around half way between Pinjarra and Bunbury.
The area is the traditional land of the Pindjarup Noongar people who knew the surrounding area as Korijekup, meaning “place of the red-tailed black cockatoo”.
The town was established in the late 1800’s, however it wasn’t established as a town site until 1938.
Today, Harvey is known for its dairy and citrus, as well as being a picturesque place to stop on the way south from Perth, heading towards Bunbury or Albany.
Like much of the South West, Harvey experiences a Mediteranean climate, though it experiences more rainfall than Perth or Bunbury with an annual average of 865mm. The summers are warm and dry, with temperatures regularly rising above 30 degrees.
Harvey is home to a thriving agricultural sector, with orchards and livestock, used for cheese, beef and dairy. It is also home to Harvey Dam, which is a popular tourist destination and fishing spot.
