Kambalda Western Australia

Kambalda is the name given to twin towns Kambalda West and Kambalda East, in the Shire of Coolgardie, in the Goldfields region of Western Australia.

The name Kambalda was chosen in 1897 and there is no record of what the word originally meant, though it is believed to be Wangkathaa Aboriginal word for a type of Mulga tree.

An early mining settlement named Kambalda existed on the same site as the current Kambalda East in the 1890s, though the original site was a company town until the 1960s.

Today the population of Kambalda has been recorded as decreasing, thought to be due to increasing fly-in fly-out operations by mining companies.

Kambalda sits in a semi-arid climate region, with hot summers, and cool to cold winters. The average rainfall in Kambalda is just over 250mm a year, and typically falls in a pretty even distribution throughout the year, though is subject to considerable variation year on year, and typically most of the rain comes from May to July.

Despite most people in Kambalda being employed in mining, education or tourism related jobs, there are still a number of farms and hobby farms within the shire, with grazing cattle or broadacre crops being grown.

Farm sheds serve a variety of purposes in Western Australia, with such a diverse and strong agricultural industry, and this means a wide range of available farm sheds need to be available for the state’s farmers to choose from and customise.
