Kununurra Western Australia

Kununurra is a town at the easternmost point of the Kimberley Region of Western Australia, less than 50 kilometers from the Northern Territory.

Kununurra’s name comes from the English pronunciation of the word Goonoonoorrang, which means river in the Miriwoong language. The Miriwoong lived on a large 10,000 square kilometer area across the Kimberley.

The Ord River allows for Kununurra’s scenic and habitable greenery, and European agriculture on the Ord River dates back as early as 1997 when sugar cane planting was planned.

The town itself wasn’t established until 1961, however, when a community of farmers came together to build a hub on the banks of the Ord River.

Kununurra has a semi-arid bordering on tropical savannah climate, with distinct wet and dry seasons. The wet season, which runs from mid-November through to March is hot and humid and makes up the majority of the area’s annual average rainfall of just over 800mm. Features of the tropical climate in Kununurra include spectacular electrical storms, cyclones and bushfires, making it a difficult place to manage the elements.

The Kununurra region has a strong agricultural industry, with a range of crops including melons, mangoes and Indian sandalwood, and other crops that have been grown in the past include cotton, safflower, rice and sugarcane. The melon picking season attracts migratory farm workers to the area, and the town’s population ebbs and flows throughout the year.

Farm sheds serve a variety of purposes in Western Australia, with such a diverse and strong agricultural industry, and this means a wide range of available farm sheds need to be available for the state’s farmers to choose from and customise.

Wheatbelt Steel offer a range of farm sheds for all industries, including Workshops, Machinery Sheds, Hay Sheds, Fertiliser Sheds, Grain Sheds, Aircraft Hangars, Shearing Sheds Equestrian Sheds and more, to ensure that your needs are not just met, but exceeded.

These sheds can be customised with roller doors or sliding doors, windows, skylights or ventilation, insulation or open bays, mezzanine floors, offices and more.

Buying a shed can be a confusing time, as there is a lot of information to process – particularly if it is your first shed, or your first time purchasing a shed. The experts at Wheatbelt Steel have been providing quality farm sheds to Western Australians for more than 40 years, and are available to help answer any questions and guide you to the best decision for you and your farm when it comes to your new shed.
