Margaret River Western Australia
Margaret River is a town, river system and wine region in the South West Region of Western Australia, a little under 300 kilometers from Perth.
The town gets its name from the eponymous river, which was named after the wife of the founder of Busselton.
The Noongar people of the area knew the region as Wooditchup, named after Woodich, a magic man of dreaming stories.
Today the town is home to a world famous wine region, and is a tourist hot spot for visitors and WA locals alike.
The climate in Margaret River is that of a warm-summer Mediterranean region, with an average annual rainfall of around 1,130mm. Most rain falls between May and August, when around two days in three record measurable rainfall. The summers are warm and mostly sunny, with considerably less rainfall.
The region is famous for its vineyards, however Margaret River also produces some of the highest quality herbs in the region, as well as previously being home to a thriving timber industry. There are many hobby farms and horticulturalists in the area taking advantage of the rainfall and soil.
