Meekatharra Western Australia

Meekatharra is an agricultural, pastoral and mining town near the border of the Gascoyne and Mid-West regions of Western Australia.

The town gets its name from the Yamatji word, which meant place of little water in the language of the traditional owners.

Meekatharra was home to a short lived gold-rush, which resulted in the founding of the town in 1903, before a stock route was developed at a later date.

Today It is a centre for sheep and cattle transport – initially by rail but now by road trains. It is connected by public transport to Geraldton with connections to Perth.

The climate in Meekatharra, like much of the surrounding regions is hot and dry. The annual rainfall is between 200 and 300 millimetres. The driest months of the year are August through to November, while it is hottest from October to April, with temperatures regularly soaring above 40 degrees.

With such dry conditions, Meekatharra struggles to grow even broadacre crops, however is home to large pastoral runs of goats and sheep.

Farm sheds serve a variety of purposes in Western Australia, with such a diverse and strong agricultural industry, and this means a wide range of available farm sheds need to be available for the state’s farmers to choose from and customise.
