Moora Western Australia

Moora is a small, lively town in the Wheatbelt region, nestled amongst a diverse range of farming communities including horticulture and livestock developments.

The name Moora is believed to have been an adaptation of an Aboriginal name for a well about a kilometer west of what is now the Moora Post Office.

Settlement of Moora first began in the late 1800’s, and it has continued to grow into one of the most vibrant and important towns in the region.

Moora is the largest Wheatbelt town between Geraldton and Perth not located on the coast, providing banking, schools and other services to nearby communities.

Moora is home to a steppe climate, with semi arid conditions easing in the winter time, which is accompanied by much needed rainfall. The summers typically reach over 40 degrees multiple times a year, while the winters are known to dip below freezing. The annual rainfall of Moora is just over 450mm, with much of the rainfall making it across from the coast.

Moora has a diverse agricultural industry, primarily made up of broadacre farming including cereal crops such as wheat and canola, and livestock including cattle and sheep. There are also some fruit and vegetables grown in the area such as citrus and olives, as well as larger plantations on mixed use farmland.
