Mount Barker Western Australia

mount Barker – sometimes styled Mt Barker – is a town in Western Australia approximately 50km north of the city of Albany.

The area around Mount Barker was traditionally inhabited by the Bibbulmun Noongar people, who lived in the area from Albany to the Porongurup Range.

The town was named for the nearby hill of Mount Barker, and began to be settled in the late 1800s thanks to the opening of the Perth-Albany railway line.

Mount Barker is home to the Banksia Farm, famous for boasting one of every known species of the Banksia plant.

Mount Barker has a temperate climate, with steady and reasonable rainfall, with warm to hot summers, and mild to cold winters. While summer can reach 40 degrees, it seldom does, though winter often drops below freezing. With just over 700mm of annual rainfall, and almost half of the year experiencing rainy days, it has always been prime for growers, with a steady supply of reliable rainfall.

While Mount Barker has seen a rise in families looking for a tree change, as well as a steady growth in hobby farmers, it still primarily exists as a major hub for local agricultural industries, which include vineyards, timber plantations, wheat and canola crops, alongside steady sheep and cattle industries on the land unused for crops. The major industry in the Mount Barker region was apple orchards up until the mid 1960’s.

Farm sheds serve a variety of purposes in Western Australia, with such a diverse and strong agricultural industry, and this means a wide range of available farm sheds need to be available for the state’s farmers to choose from and customise.

Wheatbelt Steel offer a range of farm sheds for all industries, including Workshops, Machinery Sheds, Hay Sheds, Fertiliser Sheds, Grain Sheds, Aircraft Hangars, Shearing Sheds Equestrian Sheds and more, to ensure that your needs are not just met, but exceeded.

These sheds can be customised with roller doors or sliding doors, windows, skylights or ventilation, insulation or open bays, mezzanine floors, offices and more.
