Mount Magnet Western Australia
Mount Magnet is a town and shire in the Mid West Region of Western Australia, and the longest surviving gold mining settlement in the state.
The area is home to significant Aboriginal sites being preserved by the local community and Western Australian Museum, and the area was traditionally known as Warramboo, which means “camping place”.
Gold was discovered in Mount Magnet in the 1850’s, and there were a number of town sites at one point, including Boogardie and Lennonville, as people flocked to the region in search of gold.
Today, Mount Magnet is a mining and pastoral town, with a small tourism industry, that is home to a number of historical buildings and walk trails.
The climate in Mount Magnet is an arid climate – also known as a desert climate – with an annual mean temperature of 26.8 degrees, and an average of 28 days a year above 40 degrees. The annual rainfall in the town is a meagre 250mm a year, with these falls split between the Pilbara’s wet season and the Mid West’s winter.
Mount magnet is too arid for significant agricultural use, though there are sheep, cattle and goats to be found on pastoral properties. There are also thousands of wildflowers and plant species that can be seen, including the emblematic scarlet red sturt desert pea and fields of white, yellow and pink everlastings.
Farm sheds serve a variety of purposes in Western Australia, with such a diverse and strong agricultural industry, and this means a wide range of available farm sheds need to be available for the state’s farmers to choose from and customise.
