Mundijong Western Australia
Mundijong is a rural suburb within the Shire of Serpentile Jarradale in the Darling Ranges, equal distance from Perth and Mandurah.
Mundijong was home to the Gnaala Karla Boodja language groups of the Noongar People, who are the traditional custodians of the land we now know as the Murray and Peel Regions.
Mundijong originally formed around the train station formerly known as Jarrahdale Junction, which was the junction of the Rockingham-Jarrahdale line, and the government railway line from Perth to Bunbury.
The name was later changed to Manjedal in 1893, and corrected to Mundijong in 1897 when the correct name was learned.
Mundijong, like most of the Peel region, is home to a Mediterranean climate, with warm to hot summers, and milder wet winters. Mundijong’s annual rainfall of just over 800mm a year paired with its proximity to local cities has made it a popular destination for families and hobby farmers.
Mundijong traditionally was home to a large timber mill, and took advantage of its proximity to the railway, however the timber industry in the area has faded out in favour of semi-rural living, and small fruit and leafy vegetable plantations.
