Perenjori Western Australia
Perenjori is a small town in the northern agricultural region, and the largest town in the Mid West Region Shire of Perenjori, which includes nearby towns of Latham and Rothsay.
Perenjori is the Aboriginal name of a nearby water source, Perenjori Rockhole – sometimes spelt Perengory or Perangery -and it is believed the name may be derived from the Peranj-jiddee bush which surrounded the rockhole.
European settlement began in Perenjori in 1905, when Perangery Station changed hands, and a town sprung up around the now permanent settlers.
Today, Perenjori is a farming community and wildflower hotspot on the Wildflower Way from Dalwallinu to Geraldton.
Perenjori sits within a semi-arid climate region, with long, hot and dry summers making way for cold winters with little rainfall. The town of Perenjori records an average of just under 300mm of rainfall a year, with figures varying slightly throughout the shire.
The farming communities that surround Perenjori are predominantly broadacre farms producing wheat and other cereal crops, though there are graziers in the area with sheep for wool and meat production.
