Greater Perth Region Western Australia

The Perth Region is the geographical extent of the Western Australian capital city of Perth, and its conurbation, which sometimes touches on the Peel Region, but typically covers the area from Two Rocks and Bullsbrook in the north, out to The Lakes in the east, and down to Singleton and Jarrahdale in the south.

The area covers over 10,000 square kilometers, and encapsulates more than 30 local government areas, with a population of more than two million people.

The land in this area is predominantly used for residential and commercial use, however much of the outer reaches is used for semi-rural living and a range of farming activities.

The Perth region receives moderate though highly seasonal rainfall, and is home to a hot-summer Mediterranean climate. Summers are generally hot and dry, and despite rainfall typically experienced every month of the year, less than 100mm falls between October and April annually of the 730mm Perth receives each year.

Areas around Perth are predominantly used for cattle farming and horticulture, with a range of fruits and vegetables grown in addition to the wineries found in the Swan Valley in the northern parts of the City of Swan. The Perth hills also have a lot of hobby farmers and small farms operating in the area.

Peel Region Western Australia

The Peel is one of the nine major agricultural regions of Western Australia, and covers a section of the coast from Madora Bay to Preston Beach, but also covers a large inland area from just north of Yarloop to south of Boddington, and up to Byford, Mundijong and Serpentine.

The largest settlement in the Peel Region is The City of Mandurah, though there are many farmers and families across the 5,000 square kilometers the region covers.

The region was once a small fishing and farming area, but has grown into a large residential zone, and somewhat of a satellite city for Perth, with many people commuting by train or car to the city for work.

Mandurah has a typically Mediterranean climate, with hot mostly-dry summers, and mild wetter winters, with average temperatures typically more mild than those of Perth, thanks to the more southern and coastal location. While the regional centre, Mandurah, averages an annual average of around 875mm, other parts of the Peel region such as Serpentine (1150mm), Dwellingup (1200mm) and Waroona (1050mm) receive significantly higher rainfall totals.

As well as being the home of the popular Crab Fest, the Peel region has many farms with livestock such as cattle and sheep, as well as being home to truffle farming, and a substantial equine industry.

Farm sheds serve a variety of purposes in Western Australia, with such a diverse and strong agricultural industry, and this means a wide range of available farm sheds need to be available for the state’s farmers to choose from and customise.

Wheatbelt Steel offer a range of farm sheds for all industries, including Workshops, Machinery Sheds, Hay Sheds, Fertiliser Sheds, Grain Sheds, Aircraft Hangars, Shearing Sheds Equestrian Sheds and more, to ensure that your needs are not just met, but exceeded.

These sheds can be customised with roller doors or sliding doors, windows, skylights or ventilation, insulation or open bays, mezzanine floors, offices and more.

Buying a shed can be a confusing time, as there is a lot of information to process – particularly if it is your first shed, or your first time purchasing a shed. The experts at Wheatbelt Steel have been providing quality farm sheds to Western Australians for more than 40 years, and are available to help answer any questions and guide you to the best decision for you and your farm when it comes to your new shed.
