Salmon Gums Western Australia

Salmon Gums is a small town in Western Australia, just over 100km north of Esperance in the Goldfields Esperance region.

The lands now known as Salmon Gums and Grass Patch lay within the tribal boundaries of the Kalaako people, who covered a large region north of Esperance up to Norseman.

The area was first settled by Europeans in 1925, when the Esperance to Salmon Gums section of the Esperance to Norseman railway was completed, and settlement was boosted by soldiers who were given grants of land after the first world war.

Today, Salmon Gums and Grass Patch serve a number of farming communities in the northern Esperance region, being the last farming town on the way north before the mining towns begin.

Like many near-coastal areas in the southern half of Western Australia, Salmon Gums has a mild semi-arid climate, with a subtropical heat range, with January and February averaging upward of 30 degrees. The rainfall in Salmon Gums is minimal – much like most inland towns – with an average rainfall of 375mm a year, spread relatively evenly throughout the months.

The soil in the Salmon Gums area, much like a lot of the Esperance region, is rich with trace elements which are great for fertility and crop yields, so despite the dry climate, there are many wheat and cereal crops grown in the region, as well as grazing sheep and cattle industries.

Farm sheds serve a variety of purposes in Western Australia, with such a diverse and strong agricultural industry, and this means a wide range of available farm sheds need to be available for the state’s farmers to choose from and customise.

Wheatbelt Steel offer a range of farm sheds for all industries, including Workshops, Machinery Sheds, Hay Sheds, Fertiliser Sheds, Grain Sheds, Aircraft Hangars, Shearing Sheds Equestrian Sheds and more, to ensure that your needs are not just met, but exceeded.

These sheds can be customised with roller doors or sliding doors, windows, skylights or ventilation, insulation or open bays, mezzanine floors, offices and more.

Buying a shed can be a confusing time, as there is a lot of information to process – particularly if it is your first shed, or your first time purchasing a shed. The experts at Wheatbelt Steel have been providing quality farm sheds to Western Australians for more than 40 years, and are available to help answer any questions and guide you to the best decision for you and your farm when it comes to your new shed.
